DCYC has a long history of sailing on Deep Creek Lake. The
corporation was chartered as a non-profit organization in 1948.
During the next 16 years the sailing and social activities were
housed in a leased property on Turkey Neck (across the lake from
its current location). In 1965 DCYC relocated to Shoreline Drive
in Thousand Acres, Swanton,
MD.
The
current club facility was designed and built by members. There
is a common kitchen, ward room, ballroom, men's and women's dormitories
for 16 people, a nursery for children 6 and under, and 15 leased
residential staterooms.
DCYC
Corporate members possess a "can-do" attitude. Club members
do the hands-on work that contributes to the general upkeep of
the
club's facilities and resources, including putting-in and pulling-out
docks, mowing grass, raking leaves. building maintenance, and social
functions. Everyone participates to keep the membership affordable. Club activities generally begin the third week of April, and run
through the third week of September.
